Hearing Aids: Two Are Better Than One

Hearing aids come in a wide variety of styles, and have improved markedly over the years. With advances in technology and a shift to digital, they have gotten smaller and more powerful, and are considerably more comfortable to wear. Much of the stigma associated with hearing aids of the past is gone. We believe in providing the right hearing solution for you, based on a number of factors including your lifestyle and budget. The Hearing Clinic at Mt. Hood ENT offers a full line of digital hearing aids to serve your specific needs. Styles offered are named after the location in which they are worn, and include:

  • completely in the canal hearing aids - hearing aid style - portland OR

    Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC):

    These are contained in a tiny case that is placed in the ear canal. A good choice for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss across the frequency range. May not fit those with smaller ears.
  • In The Canal hearing aids - hearing aid style - portland OR

    In-the-Canal (ITC):

    Similar to CIC hearing aids, but slightly larger with additional features. May not fit those with smaller ears.
  • Invisible in the Canal hearing aids - hearing aid style - Portland OR

    Invisible In the Canal (IIC):

    Again, similar to CIC units, but smaller. This means they require less power, and are invisible to most. A good choice for individuals with a mild to moderate hearing loss across the frequency range. May not fit those with smaller ears.
  • Receiver In The Ear hearing aids - hearing aid style - Portland OR

    Receiver-in-the-Ear (RITE):

    Housed inside a shell placed in the concha (bowl) of the ear. Cosmetically appealing, able to fit more severe losses, easier to handle with a longer battery life and extra features. For hearing when in the presence of background noise. For those with mild to severe hearing loss, can be an open or closed fit, depending on the loss.
  • Behind the Ear hearing aids - hearing aid style - Portland OR

    Behind-the-Ear (BTE):

    A popular choice that is easy to use, especially for children. Includes a plastic case that hooks behind the ear and is tethered to an ear mold in the ear canal. Great for all types of hearing loss.
  • Behind the Ear hearing aids - hearing aid style - portland OR

    Open Fit:

    Similar to a BTE but smaller and less visible. Good choice for those with normal hearing in the lower frequencies and a mild to moderate hearing loss in the higher frequencies, but can be prone to feedback and low frequency noise leakage.
